For more than 20 years, Mike Cianfrocco has dedicated his career to understanding how buildings and HVAC systems truly perform. Combining extensive field experience with advanced diagnostic technologies, Mike specializes in identifying the root causes of comfort issues, energy inefficiencies, moisture problems, and airflow deficiencies that traditional HVAC approaches often overlook.
After graduating from HVAC Technical School in New York in 2004 and earning his EPA Refrigeration Certification, Mike built his expertise through years of residential and commercial HVAC installation, quality assurance, commissioning, and system optimization. His passion for precision diagnostics ultimately led him to establish Detective Air in 2018—a consulting practice focused on applying building science principles to solve complex building performance challenges.
Today, Mike works with homeowners, contractors, builders, and building professionals to evaluate entire building systems rather than individual HVAC components. Using advanced testing and forensic diagnostics, he delivers practical, data-driven solutions that improve indoor comfort, energy efficiency, occupant health, and long-term building performance.
Recognized as an educator and industry thought leader, Mike regularly shares his expertise through national conferences, technical podcasts, and professional collaborations, helping advance the integration of building science into modern HVAC practice.

Mike is an active educator and advocate for integrating building science into everyday HVAC practice.
