For more than 35 years, Bill Spohn has worked at the intersection of HVAC, building performance, combustion safety, and test instrumentation. His experience includes designing and applying carbon monoxide and combustion-analysis instruments, educating industry professionals, and consulting on incidents involving combustion equipment, heat exchangers, venting, and building pressure relationships.
Bill approaches carbon monoxide investigations from a whole-building perspective. Rather than focusing solely on an appliance or a single measurement, he considers the interaction among equipment operation, venting, airflow, depressurization, installation, maintenance, and occupant behavior.
Through William P. Spohn, LLC, Bill provides consulting and expert-witness services involving carbon monoxide incidents, combustion appliances, HVAC equipment, heat-exchanger failures, and the proper application and interpretation of test instruments.

Bill spent ten years as Design Engineering Manager at Bacharach, where his work included the development and application of combustion, carbon monoxide, and HVAC test instruments. He subsequently spent ten years as HVAC Product Marketing Manager at Testo, connecting instrument technology with real-world field applications.
In 2009, Bill joined TruTech Tools, later becoming its President, CEO, and majority owner. TruTech Tools has grown into a leading supplier of HVAC and building-performance test instruments.
Bill also hosts the Building HVAC Science podcast and co-founded BetterHVAC, a nonprofit dedicated to improving HVAC outcomes through measurement, education, and better industry practices.
